In addition, professional blogging won’t yield much revenue for the first six months, or even for the first year! When your blog is just starting out, maintaining it will require a lot of your time and energy. Make sure that you plan your schedule wisely, especially if you already have a day job to take care of.

Despite these challenges, professional blogging can prove to be very fulfilling once your site has gained a foothold in its own niche and readership base. You don’t just get to write about the things you care about — you also get paid just for sharing your knowledge and opinions about them on your blog! Before beginning, however, consider these basic principles for professional blogging. Follow these principles, and you’ll find that blogging for money can be as enjoyable as it is profitable:

1.  Decide on a niche to specialize in, and plan out your blog accordingly:

Will you be writing about sports? Or will you be running a steady stream of political commentary on your site? Are you considering putting up restaurant reviews? Whatever your chosen niche is, make sure that the rest of your blog fits well with it. Choose a blog template, for example, that matches your overall theme, and keep your blog posts within the bounds of your chosen niche.

You can afford to create an off-topic blog post every so often, but if you want to gain your readers’ trust and establish yourself as an expert, it’s better to be consistent with your blog entries. For instance, if your blog is about technology, don’t write at length about how you and your girlfriend had a fight the other night, or share your favorite recipe for moussaka.

A cardinal rule concerning this is to pick a topic that you’re really interested in, one that you could write about for a good, long while. In other words, choose a subject that you actually love. It’s hard to fake enthusiasm for a topic that you don’t actually care much about, and it’s a tactic that usually backfires. For example, it isn’t a good idea to start a blog about photography just because a subject like that can get you a lot of traffic. Instead, choose a niche that you feel strongly about, whether it’s food, politics, religion, photography, or even something as esoteric as zoology.

Remember, a good blog is one that’s written with obvious zeal and passion, and dealing with a topic you love ensures that you won’t get sick of writing about it year after year.

2.  Update frequently:

Updating your blog regularly can make a big difference in the volume of traffic that your blog receives. You have to give your readers a good reason to visit your blog frequently, and one of the best ways to entice them into your site is by offering new content as often as possible. People don’t want to return to a blog only to find a post that they’d already read before! Make your readers’ visits worth their time by providing them with new content as often as possible.

Frequent updating also ensures that Google and other search engines index your site frequently, making your blog more visible and accessible to others. If you don’t want your blog to fall into obscurity, you have to work at giving your readers a lot of fresh entries.

3.  Take advantage of ad networks and affiliate programs:

Once you’ve got your blog up and running, you can look into more direct ways of earning money from your site. A good way to jumpstart this is by signing up for Google Adsense, which rewards you for each click that an advertising link receives from your site.

You can also sign up for an affiliate program such as Amazon.com Associates, Clickbank, or Azoogle. When you become an affiliate partner, you have to put up appropriate links to your blog that direct your readers to a product offer. The affiliate program will then pay you for each visitor from your site who makes a purchase or signs up for a service.

At one point or another, you will have to use some form of advertising on your site if you’re set on blogging for money. Your revenue, however, will be dependent on the number of readers who flock to your site; the more readers you have, the bigger the chances of having those links clicked on.

4.  Write quality posts:

No matter how frequently you update your site, and no matter how many ad networks you’re part of, you can’t earn any long-term revenue unless you offer your readers a lot of quality, credible content. Nobody wants to read something that’s poorly or shabbily written, so do your best to write as well and as accurately as you can.

When your readers realize that they can rely on you to give them solid advice and credible information regarding your niche, they’re bound to return to your blog, as well as create backlinks to your site that will boost your search engine ranking. Once you earn a reputation as an expert with credible opinions and insight about your niche, your readers will come back to your site again and again, generating traffic that spells into profit for you and your blog.

Although there are different ways through which people make money blogging, the best tactic is still to provide quality content to your readers. Remember that people aren’t attracted to your site just because it has a pretty template. While a good template can make a good impression, your visitors are there for the information you can provide! Nonetheless, it’s also important to come up with a blog theme that works well with the niche you’re dealing with, as well as to use advertising networks and affiliate programs wisely. Wordpress is a very successful piece of software that not only provides a platform to begin blogging it also has many addition features such as wordpress plugins. These wordpress plugins allow users and administrators to add additional functions to their blogs and will provide the tools to customise the blog or website design to suit the theme and genre.

For anyone who is new to blogging may not be aware that this plugin is for free so it is worth checking to see just what is on offer to you, all you need to do is install this important wordpress login that sends your blog to the top.

The plugin supports all WordPress generated pages so every time you create or edit a post the sitemap is updated and Google and all other major search engines such as ASK and MSN are informed of any changes.

The plugin is simple to install, you simply upload the full directory to your wp-content/plugins directory using ftp. You will need to make sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz writable via CHMOD 666. You then activate the plugin from inside your blog (located under options) and begin to build a sitemap. You will not have to continuously rebuild the sitemap every time a change or update is made because this is all automatic.

This is a case study one of the top social sites to post to, Wordpress.com.  Correct use of this site will help raise your search engine page ranking much higher than a lot of other social linking and social information web sites. Wow does Google love Wordpress.com.  I don’t mean the blog you have at your web host or server, I mean the blogs hosted by wordpress at their site.  If you create a blog with some good information in it, it will be listed very high in page ranking. Here’s a real world example.  For Reno Modern Luxury Homes, a wordpress.com site was created as well with a blog title of Reno Luxury Modern Homes – http://renohomes.wordpress.com/. A post named Reno Modern Luxury Homes For Sale was created as well.  The user name for the site is renohomes – It’s a good idea to have your user name contain keywords as well.  If you do a search for Reno Modern Luxury Home, you’ll see that as I write this the top 2 spots are the wordpress.com tag pages for tags put on that blog.  The 3rd and 4th links are the actual site. If you do a search for Reno Modern Homes, you’ll see that the first spot is the actual site itself which is RenoModernHomes and the #2 position is the wordpress.com blog post Reno Modern Luxury Homes For Sale. Tags are incredibly important as you can see from the first Search Engine Results Page (SERP).  the first 2 listings are in fact tags that were created and put on the http://renohomes.wordpress.com blog.  The fist google listing is for the tag reno-modern-luxury-home-for-sale and the second is for the tag reno-nevada.  Variations on the searches prove fruitful as well.  Reno Luxury Contemporary Homes brings a page 1 position 1 and 2 of the tags used!  A search for Reno Luxury Homes brings a page 1 position 6 ranking. Adding a tag for the company Pavich and Associates brings a page 1 position 3 position in a google search, the first 2 are the Pavich and Associates company website.  All of this with one blog and 1 post. Just a case study from some internet marketers who discovered that Google truly loves Wordpress.com

I know that I was interested to know who the best are so I could check out their websites and see how I could possibly earn as much money as these people do. I realized from most of these sites that sites with user generated content usually ranked pretty highly for Google Adsense earners. It seems that these “community” type sites do tend to get a lot of traffic and we all know that traffic = money. So without any more delay here are a list of the top 8 Google Adsense earners as collected from online resources.

1. Markus Frind – PlentyOfFish.com – $300,000 per month

If you haven’t heard of this guy yet you should check out the website plentyoffish.com.  He is the person who created this free online dating website from his appartment all by himself.  His website soon become one of the largest dating websites online.  I have actually tried out his website myself and can see how it can be interesting and attract a lot of visitors.  The graphics and layout of the website is nothing fancy at all but the functionality is all there and its fast to use.

There have been many of doubts that he wasn’t making that much money so he made those people silent by posting this on his blog.  According to his blog this represented two months worth of Adsense earnings.

2. Kevin Rose – Digg.com – $250,000 per month

Kevin Rose started Digg.com in December 2004.  It is a social marketing site that is mostly news, video, and pictures that are submitted by users for other users to read about and view.  Basically what happens is you can signup for an account and you can submit a “news story” and other people can view it and if they like it they can “Digg it” and this boosts the rating of the post.  If it gets enough Diggs it will appear on the Frontpage of the site and will get tons of traffic.  Digg has both Google Adsense ads and Federated Media ads.  It is estimated that he earns roughly $250k a month from Adsense alone.

3. Jeremy Schoemaker – $140,000 per month

ShoeMoney is considered to be one of the greatest Internet Marketers out there.  He is very good with search engines and knows how to setup his sites to get optimal traffic to them.  In one of his best months with Google Adsense ShoeMoney earned $132,994.97.  You can imagine it was probably pretty difficult for him to cash a check of that size!

Unlike most of the other Google advertisers ShoeMoney makes his money from hundreds of sites and thousands of domains.

4. Jason Calacanis – Weblogs, Inc. – $120,000 per month

Jason Calacanis is the creator of Weblogs.  Weblogs is a network of blogs and it was apparently making roughly $4,000 a day from Google Adsense!  He eventually sold the company to AOL for a reported $25 million.  He also announced his retirement from blogging earlier this year (July 2008).  He is now focusing on his email campaigns instead.

5. David Miles Jr. & Kato Leonard – FreeWebLayouts.net- $100,000 per month

According to a Washington Post article these 20 year old’s claim to be making $100,000 a month from their site FreeWebLayouts.net which offers free Myspace templates. That is pretty impressive for a couple of young guys that are offering free Myspace templates!

6. Tim Carter – AskTheBuilder.com – $30,000 per month

Tim Carter is a licensed master plumber and carpenter with his own radio show.  He started his website up in 1995 with his primary focus to cater to an avid following of fellow builders on the site.  In April 2004, Carter learned about Adsense for content sites and he put it on his site.  With minimal effort and time he optimized his website and his Adsense earnings grew from $1,500 to $7,500.

7. Joel Comm – e-book – $24,000 per month

Joel Comm is a get rich quick guru.  He wrote an e-book, What Google Never Told You About Making Money with Adsense. With his e-book and his website he earned $23,458.46 between Nov 2005 and Dec 2005.

8. Shawn Hogan – DigitalPoint.com – $10,000 per month

Shawn Hogan is the creator of the forum DigitalPoint.  This forum is a very usual forum with lots of information about: Search Engines, Marketing, Business, Design & Development, and Products & Tools.  In a New York Times article it stated that he was making roughly $10k a month with Google Adsense.

The members of his forum speculate he is now making around double of what he was making in 2005 when this report was published in the New York Times.

So there you have it, the Top 8 Google Adsense earners.  This list might be slighty out of date and there could be some new people in this list but this is the list I was able to pull from collecting information on the net.  So check out these sites and see if you can strive to earn as much as these people do with your website or blog.
