How to Make a Media Kit for Your Blog

June 18th, 2009
Comments Off

At one point in a professional blogger’s career, his efforts to make money blogging are finally rewarded by steady profit and a loyal reader base.  When this time comes, direct advertising is often the next step, and the best way to draw in potential advertisers is by putting up a media advertising kit, or, more simply, a media kit.  Media kits essentially hold the sort of information that advertisers will be interested in, and are supposed to convince them that advertising on your blog is a great idea.

Of course, you can’t just put out any sort of media kit and hope for the best results.  Your kit should be written in such a way as to entice advertisers and convince them that your blog is a good place to invest their money in.  Here are some time-tested rules on how to create a media kit that can boost your site’s revenue:

1.  Keep it simple
In the hopes of impressing advertisers, some bloggers commit the well-meaning mistake of using big words and a lot of long-winded sentences in their media kits.  But this style is ineffective, since advertisers don’t want to waste time trying to decipher what you’re saying.  Instead, keep your writing short and simple.

2.  Include your blog’s profile and stats:

Make a clear stand on what your blog is all about.   What’s the general theme that your posts are running with?  Is there a specific area within your niche that you specialize in?  What can your readers expect to get from your blog when they visit it?  These are the questions that your blog profile should be answering, since advertisers will definitely want to know more about your site and if they’re a good fit for you.  Don’t forget to include statistics that show just how many visitors you have, and how many backlinks trace back to your site.

3.  Give clear information on your ad packages:
Potential advertisers aren’t looking at your media kit just to know what your blog is about.  They also want to know how they can advertise at your site.  Include details about your advertising packages, including how much ad space on your blog costs, as well as the banner or button sizes you’re offering.

4.  Create a page exclusively for it:
Finally, make sure that your media kit is in a prominent, conspicuous spot where advertisers can easily find it.  Put up a tab or a new web page that’s exclusively devoted to your media kit, and make sure that your advertisers see the link right on your landing page.

Now that you’re all game to seriously make money blogging, creating a media kit should be one of your priorities.  This way, advertisers will be aware that you’re willing to accommodate them in your site, and that your blog is the perfect place for them to put up their ads in.

The Pros of Being a Work at Home Mom

June 11th, 2009
Comments Off

In the past, women were made to choose between their careers or their family: should they go off to work everyday to earn a living for the household, or should they stay home and make sure that the kids are well taken care of? These days, such a dilemma doesn’t have to persist, especially since the internet has made it easier for many people to earn a living at home, be it by blogging for money, telecommuting to their offices, or just handling their own online business.

In any case, working at home has its definite advantages, especially for moms who are juggling their jobs and their responsibilities to their families:

1. Big savings on gas and commuting expenses: How many times have you complained about what a hassle it is to get to work? Although some people can easily walk to their offices, majority of office workers either commute or bring their cars to work, both of which add to a family’s monthly expenses. Commuting is a hassle, and driving a car and paying for gas parking is incredibly costly. One of the best things about working at home is that you won’t have to go through the inconvenience of commuting or driving to your office — after all, your office desk is now in your very own home, literally steps away from where you are.

2. You can spend breaks with the young ‘uns: Forget about those office breaks that you end up spending by the water cooler, or talking about work with officemates when work is the last thing you want to talk about! If you have kids and have always wanted to spend more time with them, working at home gives you the opportunity to interact with them during the day. When you take a break from work, all you have to do is head over to your kids and play with them a bit, or serve them snacks to fill them up in the afternoon.

3. Saving on daycare One of the best things about being a work at home mom is the fact that you don’t have to rely on a day care center to make sure that your kids are taken care of while you’re working at your desk. Now that your kids are close by, you can check on them as needed to see whether or not they’re having a good, safe time with each other. If you’re headed towards a particularly busy day, you can ask for some help from a baby sitter or a relative who has some free time to spare. That way, you don’t have to shuttle to and from your kids and your tasks.

4. You get to explore your strengths, career-wise, and do what you love the best It’s always important to be doing what you love the best, and being a work at home mom gives you a chance to find out more about your strengths and what you’re passionate about. Some mothers find out that they love to make money blogging, while others find themselves enjoying the small business they just put up. Whatever you choose to work on, just be sure that you’re doing what you love, and that you like what you do.

Although working at home isn’t the perfect solution for everyone, some moms thrive when they work away from the office, or when they’ve mustered enough courage to go out there and start their own businesses. Sure, such a move can be very challenging or risky, but if you have a good idea of where you want to go and how you can accomplish your goals, working at home won’t just be a matter of convenience for you, but also a matter of success.

Challenges of Being a Work at Home Mom

June 11th, 2009
Comments Off

Working at home is becoming an even more tempting option for many busy mothers out there who feel torn between their jobs and their familial obligations.  And it seems much easier to work at home now, especially because there are so many more career opportunities out there:  you can start putting up your own business, selling your own merchandise, or even blogging for money.

Despite the obvious advantages that moms get from working at home, there are still some caveats that you have to be aware of before you make the move from your office to your house.  Here are a number of major points that you should consider if you’re thinking of working at home:

1.    The urge to check on the kids frequently:
Mothers of young children, beware:  when you’ve just started working at home, it will be difficult to resist the compulsion to check on your kids every so often, but you’re going to have to keep your motherly instincts in check so you can focus on your job.

While mothers generally decide to work at home so they can spend a little more time with their children, manage your time with your kids wisely.  Instead of checking on your kids from time to time, interact with them only during your breaks or when the situation really calls for it.  Otherwise, your baby sitter will be fine handling things by herself.

2.   Distractions:
The office is a controlled environment where your boss is always just around the corner and a professional demeanor is always demanded of you.  But your home is a different story, and if you aren’t careful, you can get sucked in by a host of distractions that can jeopardize your productivity.  Try not to bustle around the house tidying it up, and forget about your chores for a bit.  You can always do your vacuuming later when you’re done with your tasks.

3.  Extra paperwork:
When you become a work at home mom, you’ll find yourself being responsible for more things.  For example, you’re going to have to take charge of practically all your bills and do some accounting, which most of you aren’t yet accustomed to.  To avoid getting overwhelmed, make sure you organize all your bills and outstanding dues and create a monthly budget.  You can even ask for some help from someone more experienced in these matters than you, and if your business necessitates it, hire an accountant to work for you once in a while.

4.  Loneliness:
While there may have been times when working at your former office did nothing but frustrate you, you must also have met people whom you ended up getting along well with, and whom you managed to interact with in very friendly terms.  When you start working at home, however, you’re left with nobody but yourself, the kids, and the occasional baby sitter.   Loneliness is one of the more challenging things to overcome when you begin working at home, especially if you thrive in professional situations where you get to mingle with other individuals from varying backgrounds.

Before you can become a work at home mom, you have to consider that such a move will work for you only if you’ve considered all its pros and cons.  It’s great to be your own boss while you make money blogging or while you manage your new business, but there are also quite a good number of drawbacks that you should prepare yourself for.  Once you have a fairly good idea of what’s ahead and how you can deal with them, you’ll find that being a work at home mom is an endeavor that’s enjoyable and profitable at the same time.

The Golden Rules on How to Make Money with Your Blog

May 27th, 2009
Comments Off

When most people think of what it means to make money blogging, two words seem to come up almost automatically: “instant cash”. And yet blogging for money isn’t your ticket to quick wealth as it’s often made out to be. Many of today’s highest-earning bloggers worked at their blogs for years, eschewing SEO shortcuts and gimmickry in favor of long-term solutions that would help establish their sites within the blogosphere.

One of the first things that you have to do as a professional blogger is to get ready for all the work that lies ahead of you. Keep in mind that your blog won’t be the only one of its kind that’s already up and running, which means that competition for reader’s attention is much stiffer now. In addition, professional blogging won’t yield much revenue for the first six months, or even for the first year! When your blog is just starting out, maintaining it will require a lot of your time and energy. Make sure that you plan your schedule wisely, especially if you already have a day job to take care of.

Despite these challenges, professional blogging can prove to be very fulfilling once your site has gained a foothold in its own niche and readership base. You don’t just get to write about the things you care about — you also get paid just for sharing your knowledge and opinions about them on your blog! Before beginning, however, consider these basic principles for professional blogging. Follow these principles, and you’ll find that blogging for money can be as enjoyable as it is profitable:

1.  Decide on a niche to specialize in, and plan out your blog accordingly:

Will you be writing about sports? Or will you be running a steady stream of political commentary on your site? Are you considering putting up restaurant reviews? Whatever your chosen niche is, make sure that the rest of your blog fits well with it. Choose a blog template, for example, that matches your overall theme, and keep your blog posts within the bounds of your chosen niche.

You can afford to create an off-topic blog post every so often, but if you want to gain your readers’ trust and establish yourself as an expert, it’s better to be consistent with your blog entries. For instance, if your blog is about technology, don’t write at length about how you and your girlfriend had a fight the other night, or share your favorite recipe for moussaka.

A cardinal rule concerning this is to pick a topic that you’re really interested in, one that you could write about for a good, long while. In other words, choose a subject that you actually love. It’s hard to fake enthusiasm for a topic that you don’t actually care much about, and it’s a tactic that usually backfires. For example, it isn’t a good idea to start a blog about photography just because a subject like that can get you a lot of traffic. Instead, choose a niche that you feel strongly about, whether it’s food, politics, religion, photography, or even something as esoteric as zoology.

Remember, a good blog is one that’s written with obvious zeal and passion, and dealing with a topic you love ensures that you won’t get sick of writing about it year after year.

2.  Update frequently:

Updating your blog regularly can make a big difference in the volume of traffic that your blog receives. You have to give your readers a good reason to visit your blog frequently, and one of the best ways to entice them into your site is by offering new content as often as possible. People don’t want to return to a blog only to find a post that they’d already read before! Make your readers’ visits worth their time by providing them with new content as often as possible.

Frequent updating also ensures that Google and other search engines index your site frequently, making your blog more visible and accessible to others. If you don’t want your blog to fall into obscurity, you have to work at giving your readers a lot of fresh entries.

3.  Take advantage of ad networks and affiliate programs:

Once you’ve got your blog up and running, you can look into more direct ways of earning money from your site. A good way to jumpstart this is by signing up for Google Adsense, which rewards you for each click that an advertising link receives from your site.

You can also sign up for an affiliate program such as Amazon.com Associates, Clickbank, or Azoogle. When you become an affiliate partner, you have to put up appropriate links to your blog that direct your readers to a product offer. The affiliate program will then pay you for each visitor from your site who makes a purchase or signs up for a service.

At one point or another, you will have to use some form of advertising on your site if you’re set on blogging for money. Your revenue, however, will be dependent on the number of readers who flock to your site; the more readers you have, the bigger the chances of having those links clicked on.

4.  Write quality posts:

No matter how frequently you update your site, and no matter how many ad networks you’re part of, you can’t earn any long-term revenue unless you offer your readers a lot of quality, credible content. Nobody wants to read something that’s poorly or shabbily written, so do your best to write as well and as accurately as you can.

When your readers realize that they can rely on you to give them solid advice and credible information regarding your niche, they’re bound to return to your blog, as well as create backlinks to your site that will boost your search engine ranking. Once you earn a reputation as an expert with credible opinions and insight about your niche, your readers will come back to your site again and again, generating traffic that spells into profit for you and your blog.

Although there are different ways through which people make money blogging, the best tactic is still to provide quality content to your readers. Remember that people aren’t attracted to your site just because it has a pretty template. While a good template can make a good impression, your visitors are there for the information you can provide! Nonetheless, it’s also important to come up with a blog theme that works well with the niche you’re dealing with, as well as to use advertising networks and affiliate programs wisely. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, you’re sure to be blogging your way towards a real and sustainable profit!

Here’s How I Make Money Blogging

THE KEYS TO PROFITABLE BLOGGING

Blogging may have started out as a way to express yourself, like a diary or online journal, but recently many, myself included, have found that we can use our personal stories, ideas, passions and writing skills to make money.

How, you ask?  I target a highly interested audience of readers who are also consumers. In other words, make money blogging must attract those people who readily spend money to pursue their hobbies, interests and desires.

I find that in order to make money blogging it is imperative that you create or acquire interesting content, content that people are looking for, that they’ll talk to their friends about and come back for over and over again.

You must give ongoing value to get visitors to return to your site repeatedly, and for them to want to share your site with others.

Then just pick a theme, niche, or topic, and start writing!  I know this is an over simplification, but it also contains the essence of what is required. Then, even if you have no product of your own, you can still make money from your blog by selling and displaying advertising, earning commissions recommending products and other activities.   Details?  Read on.

WHAT IF YOU DON’T LIKE TO WRITE?

I write reasonably well, but finding the time is a big problem.Just because you don’t enjoy writing or feel you aren’t a gifted writer you can still pursue blogging.  There are many sources of content beyond what you create yourself. You can sign up for RSS feeds that will actually insert original or PLR articles into your blog.  You can also hire a ghostwriter directly to write articles.

Personally I enjoy rewriting PLR and RSS feeds even more than creating from scratch.  It reduces research to nearly zero, and allows me to save my creativity for other areas.

HOW TO GET STARTED

You can actually start your blog completely for free. There are services like Blogger.com that make it super easy.  Blogger’s Paycheck experts recommend that those seriously seeking profit should strongly consider WordPress, but in a different way than is explained at WordPress.com.

You can jump right in, and learn from your own mistakes as you go, or you can use tried and true methods.  You don’t have to start ‘just another blog’. Your blog can consistantly get the quality traffic that closes more sales. Learning from a someone who has already done what you want to do is the only way to make that happen.

I tried a number of available programs, but my “hands down” favorite is Blogger’s Paycheck. I use it with Expert WordPress! which not only shows you how to install WordPress. but complements Blogger’s Paycheck beautifully.  I firmly believe that these two programs have been my ticket to financial freedom.

HOW DO I START BLOGGING NOW?

After seeing the tons of blogs out there on the internet that are successful, interesting, highly ranked on the search engines and making a ton of money, many people ask me this question every day.  This article is my best attempt answer the question.

Blogging Tips Made Simple

May 16th, 2009
Comments Off

Blogs are popular ways to create an online presence for personal and business reasons. You can build a blog for free and begin posting content right away. But, what good is that content if no one is reading it. Here are ten great ideas and tactics to drive tons of traffic to your blog.

Of all the successful money making blogs on the Internet, hundreds more have failed to become successful. Running a blog is similar to running a business website. Unless you are willing to put the time in and treat it seriously, you won’t be blogging long.

That is not to say that the failed bloggers weren’t serious about blogging. Mostly, new bloggers aren’t prepared for the work that goes into creating a successful blog. Just building the blog doesn’t mean that people will necessary come to you. You pursue the audience and give them a reason to see what you have to say.

1. Fresh Content – no one wants to visit a blog day after day and see the same posts. Update your blog content at least twice a week. This will be easier if you write several posts ahead of time and upload them at the appropriate times.

2.Article Marketing – for niches that interests you and the subject of your blog. If you like it and it’s interesting, you will find you have more time for it. Always create content first for your blog but also submit to article directories and other blogs. Use the resource box to ad your link to your blog and so people can find you.

3.Web 2.0 Social Networking – these sites are everywhere. Join Facebook, MySpace, Squidoo, Twitter or a dozen others and make connections. You can join groups of other likeminded people who may also bloggers or entrepreneurs.

4.Viral Marketing – this is where you spread the word about your blog. Talk to friends, family and strangers. Give out business cards and make sure your blog address is on them.

5.Use RSS Feeds – “Really Simple Syndication.” Readers subscribe to your feed and get updated when post new content. It is an easy way for them to keep up with your blog without spending all day online.

6.Submit Blog to Search Engines – doing this allows your blog to be ranked. Google and Yahoo! are two of the most popular search engines you want to crawl your blog pages. It doesn’t guarantee top ranking, though. You’ll have to do a little more work for that.

7.Joining Forums – as a blogger you are a budding entrepreneur. Right now you are marketing yourself to find traffic and then profit. Become a member of forums, work at home forums and other forums in your niche to meet new people and share ideas. Make sure to add a link to your blog in the signature line so others can find you.

8.Visit other blogs – show your appreciation to those who visit you by also posting comments on their blogs. It is a kindness that shows others you are not just out to advertise your blog alone. Add links to your blog in your comments.

9.SEO Marketing – whatever you write, use relevant keywords. Keyword density between three percent and ten percent is best for getting high page rankings in search engines. Base your postings on keywords you research to find the most popular search terms used in the search engines for your niche.

10.Social Bookmarking – submitting posts to social bookmarking sites allows others who are members of those sites to track you back to your blog.

Putting to use the ideas will kickstart your blog into the right direction. It takes time but you will build the readership you want.

Top Affiliate Marketing Strategies

May 8th, 2009
Comments Off

Anyone who knows what it’s like to make money blogging will tell you one thing: affiliate networks are a necessity if you want to earn anything from your site. It’s also a good jump-off point for bloggers who are just starting out and aren’t yet being approached by advertisers.

Before we go on, you might want to get a clearer picture about what it means to be an affiliate partner.  When you sign up for an affiliate program, your role is to direct your visitors to your affiliate’s site or sales offer page.  Some programs will pay you for every click that comes from your site, while others will give you a commission only when a sale is made.

Given all these, however, affiliate marketing isn’t tantamount to instant money. Always, the challenge is to encourage people to click through to your affiliate’s website or offer page. After all, some people couldn’t care less about the sort of advertising on your site, or what those banners on your home page have to offer to them. And yet there are marketing strategies that you can implement to ensure that you’re doing justice to your affiliate program and coming up with as much profit as you can. Read on to find out how you can be a successful affiliate partner!

1. Keep it simple:

Over time, it’s become more and more obvious that glitzy banners and flashy ads on your site don’t do as well as advertising that comes in the simple form of links. In other words, people are most likely to respond to an ad if it’s subtle and non-invasive, which is exactly what an ad link is like. Not just that – the difficulty with banners is that they sometimes take forever to load, especially if they require a demanding program to run successfully. Go with the simpler format, and your ads are likely to get much more attention and click-throughs than your banner ads.

2.  Tie your affiliate program and your blog niche together:

Your advertisements should also strive to be relevant to your blog’s specific niche.  Sure, you have all the freedom to put up ads for luxury cars on your digital technology website.  The problem?  You’re targeting the wrong market.  Techies and gadget geeks don’t always take a shine to luxury cars, so putting up an ad that won’t be a hit with your audience is practically useless.  Instead, go with an affiliate program that matches your readers’ tastes, needs, and preferences.  That way, you boost your chances of making a sale at one point or another.

Sign up for multiple programs:

Make the probability game work in your favour: sign up for multiple affiliate programs, and tweak them all so they work in harmony with each other. For example: you can use Google Adsense alongside other affiliate programs. Be sure to implement this in moderation, however. Most readers are turned off by excessive advertising, so don’t be too blatant about your intent to earn money. Instead, position your ads tastefully, in such a way that your readers don’t feel like their experience of your blog is akin to staring at a huge billboard.

4. Create reviews for products that your readers will be interested in:

What kind of products will your readers be interested in?  Since you’re serving a particular market with your blog, respond to their interests by coming up with product evaluations that can help them make better purchases.  And we aren’t just talking about any old review here – instead, we’re referring to a commissioned review from places like ReviewMe.com, where a blogger can get paid for evaluating a specific product.  Not only do you get to help your readers – you also stand to earn money for your efforts!

Once you have these basics down pat, it’s easy to see why professional bloggers need affiliate marketing as part of their endeavor to make money blogging.  It’s not as difficult or complicated as some newbies might think; the trick is to keep your advertising to your readers’ best interests without cutting down your opportunity to make a profit.  With these basic rules, you can go on to become a successful affiliate with a loyal following and a solid, high-paying blog.

Effective Ways to Get Your Blog Indexed

May 8th, 2009
Comments Off

The bottom line here is that it really doesn’t seem to hurt your rankings, but it’s best to keep in mind that the search engines “know it’s you” who is submitting the site. What they want are votes of confidence from other established sites out there. That’s why it’s better to concentrate on those.

If you already have a network of sites then you have a huge advantage. All it takes is a relevant contextual link on one of those sites and you’ll often get indexed very quickly. This is especially true If you have access to a site that gets indexed often.

Not everyone has established sites, however! The good thing is that there are sites out there that allow you to put your content on their site. Article directories are one example. If you write an article for a site like EzineArticles.com with a link back to your site in the author’s resource box, the chances are good that you will get indexed fairly quickly. You can also add your content and links to sites like HubPages.com, Squidoo.com, and others.

Another thing you can do is make sure you submit your RSS feed to directories. There are RSS directories out there that alert people (and spiders) that your content has been updated. This can increase your chances of getting indexed. Some examples of sites you can submit to include Feedagg.com and Feedage.com.

Yet another piece of the puzzle is writing good content and updating often. There is no exact formula for this, but we do know that Google likes content! If you can write a few posts right off the bat to show that you’re going to be a great, relevant site, there is a larger chance that your site will get indexed.

If you still haven’t made it into the search engines it is going to take a bit more effort. Usually a combination of a few of these will work well. Also, a little bit of patience goes a long way. It’s not unusual to wait a week or more for the magic to happen! Still, by following the suggestions above you’ll find that you get indexed fairly quickly and often. check out for more make money blogging tips.
