3 Signs An Online Marketing Program is a Scam

November 22nd, 2009

When looking at various online marketing programs, it’s wise to be a wary buyer who is on the lookout to avoid marketing scams. There are some red flags that can tell you that what you’re looking at might not be as worthwhile as it sounds.  Here are a few of those red flags to watch for, especially if the program requires you to pay money to be involved:

A payment method that doesn’t protect the buyer. You want to know you can get a refund if the internet marketing program doesn’t deliver on its promises. Look for options such as PayPal or a credit card, rather than, say, someone who tells you to do a wire transfer that won’t have a refund or chargeback option.
Beware of programs that you can’t find much information about. When you’re thinking of joining an internet marketing program to help you make money, you should be able to find out info about that program. No one wants to be the guinea pig that tests a system for a first time. Do some investigation into a program before signing up. Lack of testimonials or product reviews is something that’s typically a red flag. Consider Googling the person whose name is on the sales page as well so you can learn a bit more about them and their online reputation.
Promise of big riches overnight with no work. If you’re seeing an opportunity to make money online that promises you a get rich quick scheme, it probably is a scheme — a scammy scheme! All successful online entrepreneurs have worked for their success. Even if you can buy a few short cuts such as training, education, and a roadmap to follow that’s proven as successful, there is still going to be effort involved. Be very wary of hype.

By taking the time to carefully look at every online opportunity you are  to buy into, you begin to develop a keen eye for spotting the ones that are higher risk or that don’t really sound all that legit once you get past the hype. Trust your instinct. As ‘they’ say, if it sounds like a duck, and walks like a duck, and looks like a duck…it’s probably is…an internet marketing scam.
